On 11 May 2026 Seeed Studio moved the reBot Arm hardware from CC BY-NC-SA to CERN-OHL-W 2.0, with firmware under Apache 2.0. The earlier NonCommercial clause made commercial assembly and resale a non-starter; the current license expressly permits it, subject to reciprocal source disclosure on modified designs.
MBR operates entirely within those terms — we publish our mounting plates, workcell fixtures and integration configs back upstream. Open hardware only compounds if the integrators feed it. Upstream project →
The reBot Arm is our flagship, but it isn't the only credible open platform. We source, assemble and integrate across the ecosystem — and we check the license on every one, because "open source" and "you may sell it" are not the same sentence.
